South America Mega Post: Vancouver to Peru, Chile, Argentina, Colombia or Bolivia

If you've ever wanted to visit South America, today would probably be a very good day to check the airfare prices.

There seems to be a plethora of unusually good prices to many South American destinations from Vancouver today, on a variety of airlines (mainly involving Air Canada, LAN, and Aeromexico).

My pick:

If you feel overwhelmed by the choices, my pick would probably be the deals from Vancouver to Santiago, Chile.

Chile rarely goes on sale (usually $1200+), and there's many great months to visit, such as November & December for the Patagonia area (summer in the southern hemisphere).

And late September to mid November for Santiago (spring time).

All of which fall in line with the months available for this deal. This is also a new record for the cheapest Vancouver - Chile flights ever seen.

Let's examine the available South American destinations in order of price, from Vancouver...

Vancouver to Bogota, Colombia (BOG) - $547 to $580 CAD roundtrip including taxes

Tayrona National Park in Colombia

When: late October 2015 and early November 2015 - very limited dates

Airlines involved: Air Canada and LAN

How: search on Travelocity.ca

Example searches:

Oct 15 to 26 -- added @ 7:50 PM PST

Oct 24 to Nov 02

Nov 4-11

Vancouver to Lima, Peru (LIM) - $660 to $696 CAD roundtrip including taxes

Machu Picchu, Peru

When: late September 2015 to December 2015

Airlines involved: Air Canada, Aeromexico, and LAN

Heads up: There are a variety of different flight options, some involving overnight stays in San Francisco or Toronto, while others involve an overnight stay in Mexico City.

Click on 'Show Details' once you get to Kayak to review the itinerary. Some flights don't require overnight stays, and have just 1 stop each way (I've identified them in the links below).

How: search on Kayak, click through to Expedia or Travelocity

Example searches:

Sep 30 to Oct 10

Oct 7 to Oct 17

Oct 14 to Oct 24

Oct 21 to Oct 31 - $660 - 1 stop each way, no overnight stays

Oct 28 to Nov 07

Nov 04 to Nov 14 - 1 stop on the way back, no overnight stays

Dec 02 to Dec 12 - $663

Alternatively, you can fly into Lima (LIM) and out of Cusco (CUZ) for $645 to $678 including taxes.

How: Search on Kayak, click through to Expedia for booking.

Heads up: Some flight combinations change price from $678 to $702 when you get to Expedia. Each day has numerous flight combinations, so try various ones when you get to Kayak.

Example dates:

Oct 07 to Oct 17

Oct 21 to Oct 31

Oct 28 to Nov 07

Nov 04 to Nov 14

Dec 02 to Dec 09 - $645

Santa Cruz: October 8-26 - $703 -- added 5/21 @ 7:41 AM PST

Vancouver to Santiago, Chile (SCL) - $732 to $787 CAD roundtrip including taxes

^^ new record for cheapest Vancouver - Chile flight ever seen.

Chile

When: September 2015 to mid-December 2015

Airlines involved: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, LAN, Aeromexico

Heads up: There are a large variety of different flight itineraries available for under $800.

Tip: When you get to Kayak, try using the 'Durations' sliders on the left, and bring the 'Layover' slider down to 5 hours or less, and the 'Flight Leg' slider down to 20 hours.

This should yield some flights for $791 on LAN that are fairly decent in terms of travel time.

16 hours of total travel time each way is about as fast as Vancouver - Chile can be done, and these ones are 19 hours.

How: search on Kayak and click through to Expedia

Example searches:

Sep 15-25 - $764

Oct 06-16 - $764

Oct 13-23 - $769 (Oct 11-14 to Nov 20-21 for $791)

Nov 10 - Nov 20 - $764 (Nov 9-10 to Nov 18-19 for $791)

Nov 15, 16, 17, 19 to - Nov 24 or 25 - $791

Nov 24 to Dec 04 - $765 (Nov 22-24 to Dec 01 for $791)

Dec 1 to 11 - $732 (Dec 1, 2, or 4 to Dec 10 or 11 for $787)

Vancouver to Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE) - $796 to $821 CAD roundtrip including taxes

^^ it's been many years since I've seen a Vancouver - Argentina flight in the $800s.

Iguazu Falls, Argentina side

When: September 2015 to early December 2015

Airlines involved: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, LAN

Heads up: These are some very lengthy flights with overnight stays each way. Probably not worth it for most people. There are some in November/December that have better itineraries though, without overnight stays, and 20-24 hours of total travel time each way (Around 18 hours each way is the fastest Vancouver - Argentina can be done).

How: search on Kayak and click through to FlightHub

Example searches:

Sep 15-25

Sep 22 - Oct 09

Oct 6-16 - $796

Oct 13 to Nov 23

Multi-City Deal: Vancouver to Buenos Aires, Argentina and then to Santiago, Chile and then back to Vancouver - $855 for all 3 flights!

Floralis Generica, a sculpture in Buenos Aires, Argentina

It looks like Air Canada is now offering some amazing multi-city deals, where you can visit Argentina *and* Chile for just $855 after taxes, including the flight between Buenos Aires and Chile. I've definitely never seen anything like this before.

When: October 2015 to mid-December 2015

Airlines involved: Air Canada

How: search on Google Flights and click through to Air Canada to book.

Heads Up: In most cases, you can either do Argentina first, or Chile first. Either way, it seems to result it in a 1-stop flight in one direction, and a 2-stop flight in the opposite direction.

Example searches:

(these example searches are for a 2 week trip, spending one week in Argentina and one week in Chile. It is possible to find longer trips by mixing and matching the departure/return dates from the various examples below.

For example, if you modify the dates on Google Flights to Nov 05 to Nov 11 to Nov 25 it will work as well).

Oct 06 to 21 $855 - Argentina first, then Chile

Oct 06 or 08 to 21 $855, Chile first, then Argentina

Oct 16 or 17 to 28 $880, Argentina first
