Crazy price drops to Central America!! From $382 roundtrip after taxes

December
Update: December 13th - The fare war to Central America appears to be over. Prices on all airlines look to be back up to the $700-$1000 range.
-------------
Update: December 12th - The crazy prices to Central America continue, with Delta and Continental getting in on the action now. Delta & Continental look to have matched many of the prices put out by AA, on certain dates.
This also gives you a better chance of finding more reasonable flights (shorter stopovers, no overnighters) to Central America.
Here's what I've seen so far, using a 3 day flexible date search on Kayak...
Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) - $372 roundtrip after taxes (Delta: decent flight there, longer on the way home)
Tegucigalpa, Honduras (TGU) - $386 roundtrip after taxes (Contintental: decent flight there, longer on the way home)
San Pedro Sula, Honduras (SAP) - $386 roundtrip after taxes (Contintental: longer flight on the way there, decent on the way home)
-----------------------
American Airlines has just made an unadvertised cut on their fares to Central America from all across Canada. The prices are ridiculous, and I believe the largest overall price cuts from Vancouver to Central America, ever.
Here's what I've discovered so far...
- Prices between February and May look to be affected the most
- Some routes on AA to Central America require an overnight stay in the U.S.
Here are the cities that have dropped , and I'll provide an example search on Kayak in late February for each one.
Try your own dates and see what comes up. Play around on Kayak to find cheap ones with good routings.

You can also play around with a multi-city search, and fly into one of those cities, and out of another, for a cheap price.
And you can also go directly to AA.com to see what's available.

I was just going to purchase a flight today to Costa Rica, so disappointed the deal is over. What would be a good price for a round trip from YVR to SJO or LIR for end of January or beginning of February?
Hi Eve,
Before this year, it was common to see prices to Costa Rica in the range of roundtrip after taxes. But there has been some aggressive cuts this year, started by United, which dropped them to around $650 roundtrip after taxes.
Anything around that range was the most common bottom price, until this recent fare war between the airlines.
I paid 200 one-way one-stop last January. Return was not much more. Can't go wrong for return trips that distance under $500.
Check flights departing out of Seattle though - the savings might be worth the bus trip
This was one of those rare cases where Seattleites would want to drive to Vancouver to get a better deal. Seattle departures to Central America were in the $600-700s (roundtrip after tax), while Canadian city departures were half of that.
