WestJet is showing flights from Vancouver to Oranjestad, Aruba for between $365 and $478 CAD roundtrip including taxes.
The flights have 1 stop each way in Toronto.
There are a few reasons I like this deal, beyond the fact that it's around half the typical best price of a flight from Vancouver to Aruba.
- The flights are as close to as fast as Vancouver - Aruba can be done, with fairly ideal layover times in Toronto . Getting to Aruba (or anywhere in the deep south of the Caribbean) has never been easy from Western Canada. Toronto is the only Canadian city with nonstop flights to AUA. Flights through the U.S. often have ridiculous 10-18 hour layovers (there is one exception, YVR-JFK-AUA on JetBlue).
- Aruba is far south in the Caribbean, practically in South America, on the very fringes of the hurricane belt. Only six hurricanes have passed within 100km miles of Aruba over the past 140 years. Statistically speaking *most* places in the Caribbean are safe from hurricanes by mid to late November. Aruba even more so.
- Unlike most places in the Caribbean which can have very expensive accommodations you can actually find well reviewed places to stay in Aruba for $100-$150 CAD / night (sort by price).
- This is the first time there's been a great deal from Vancouver to Aruba.
UPDATE - A few more December dates have become available for $365 CAD roundtrip. This is a new record for the cheapest flights from Vancouver to Aruba.
