Vancouver or Victoria to Canadian Cities for Spring, Summer, Fall Travel - $86 to $158 roundtrip after taxes
20
June
Domestic flight prices within Canada continue to shine, and cheap prices are available on dates throughout 2022.
It was not that long ago you would easily be paying a minimum of $500 roundtrip after taxes to fly from Western Canada to Ontario or Quebec or vice versa. Those same routes are now routinely in the ballpark for less than half that price, and occasionally a third.
Back then you had two choices, WestJet or Air Canada. Then Air Transat started flying certain domestic routes, which helped with prices between major cities, such as Vancouver to Toronto. Then Flair entered the mix, starting with cheap flights from smaller Canadian airports, and gradually worked their way into the larger airports.
WestJet responded to this new upstart named Flair by creating Swoop to compete in the low cost carrier space.
And then there's Porter, who has been biding their time in Eastern Canada, but now appears poised to finally expand across Canada with their 80 new aircraft.
Not to mention Lynx Air, who is already selling tickets and will begin flying in April out of Vancouver, Toronto, and Calgary.
Oh, and Sunwing is back to selling domestic flights between Vancouver and Toronto.
And last, and perhaps deservedly least, is Jetlines who is claiming to finally be getting off the ground in 2022. (It should be noted that Jetlines has made similar claims for the last 6 or 7 years).
It's conceivable that soon Canada will have 4 or 5 airlines competing on some popular domestic routes. Can we handle this many?
Yes, many routes within Canada are still dominated by 1 or 2 airlines, keeping prices high on those routes (Air Canada and WestJet still operate about 80% of domestic flights). Most places with less than 200,000 people are still going to have expensive domestic flights and limited airline choices.
But I think to say that Canada's domestic market has a real lack of competition is no longer true like it once was.

Anything coming up out of Nanaimo or to Winnipeg?
WestJet has relatively cheap ones from Vancouver to Winnipeg for $197 CAD after taxes in April, May, and June 2022. Flair is $136 CAD roundtrip between late March and September. You don't see any cheap ones out of Nanaimo due to it just being Air Canada and WestJet that fly out of YCD.
So far the attention for low cost domestic fares from the island (other than Victoria) is out of Comox. Flair is allegedly going to start flying out of there in March to Calgary. And Swoop just announced today they are going to fly between Comox and Edmonton.
Are there any sales of trips Victoria to Regina?
Leigh: There are cheap flights from Vancouver to Regina (just added Vancouver - Regina to the blog post). But unfortunately there are not any from Victoria.
Hi,
Are there any cheap flights from Vancouver to Halifax or Charlottetown for summer 2022?
Are there any cheap flights from Penticton to Saskatoon?
The only cheap route between all of B.C. and Saskatoon is between Vancouver and Saskatoon ($96-$156 roundtrip in May and June).
I believe just this weekend AC has eliminated a late non-stop flight from Toronto to Victoria. It left at 8:55pm and was a great connection for flying home from the Caribbean (also my son would take this coming home from university after flying from London ON). It seems now we on the island will have to layover in Toronto to get home too.
Check new Lynx airlines!
Yep, Lynx has fairly identical prices to Flair with the same model. Hopefully they are more reliable!
Is there anything for the End of August-long weekend, naniamo or victoria to Calgary ?
Anyone Vancouver to PEI in the summer? Also why is Vancouver to Montreal so expensive in the summer
Hi Chris- if I’m booking in October what are the odds that half these little budget airlines will still be in business?
Thanks!
Hi Nine, I seem to recall getting messages from industry analysts back in 2017 that mentioned Flair Airlines wouldn't last 6 months and that the low cost model would never work in Canada. And well, here we are 5 years later. Flair just ordered 13 new jets from Boeing in January of last year, which is allegedly just a first step in their goal to grow to 50 aircraft within 5 years.
Swoop is owned by WestJet, who is now owned by a private company with very, very, deep pockets. Swoop actually just announced another major expansion today into the Maritimes/Atlantic Canada.
As for Lynx, well, they are really just Enerjet rebranded. An airline that has been around for well over a decade, mainly transporting oil workers around Canada. But it remains to be seen how many low cost carriers Canada can handle.
Hi Chris.
Thanks for taking the time to allay my fears. Booking so far ahead is always a little nerve racking but I would appreciate the savings!
Hi Chris,
Thank you for the info. We just booked to Hamilton at the end of March! Do you have any deals to Halifax from Vancouver or Abbotsford?
Many thanks,
John
Hi Chris,
Thanks for recent info
I am looking for a return flight from Edmonton to Kelowna in July/22.
Do you know of any deals for this.
Thank you
Mary Ann
Hi, and thanks for providing great information! Just wondering about Abbotsford to Ottawa? Nothing shows up for any dates when I follow the link or look it up on Flair’s website. Any ideas?
