Vancouver to Guangzhou, China - $492 roundtrip after taxes

Update 1: Nov 28 - Certain September dates look to be higher now (such as my example dates below). Still seems to be cheap ones in October. October 3-12 for example.
Update 2: Thought this deal was dead, but still seems to be some cheap ones kicking around. Try the following date combos: Sep 14 to Oct 31. Sep 15 to Oct 1. Sep 26 to Oct 26. Sep 27 to Oct 12. Oct 3 to Oct 17. Oct 4 to Oct 19. Oct 11 to Oct 26. Oct 17 to Oct 31. Probably more of them.
There seems to be some *very* cheap flights to Guangzhou, China showing on Vayama.ca at the moment, particularly for September/October 2012 travel.
Here's how to find them...
1. Go to http://www.vayama.ca
2. Search for a trip from Vancouver (YVR) to Guangzhou, China (CAN)
Many date combinations in September/October seem to be giving this extremely cheap price. Try September 14 to 28 for example.
3. Hit Search. Depending on the dates you choose, you may see multiple itinerary options. Many of them seem to involve direct flights on the way back to Vancouver, but on the way there the options often look to involve spending a night in Los Angeles.
Or there's some that involve getting into Los Angeles in the morning and departing at 11:30 PM the same day.
The price verifies on Vayama, here's a screenshot:
I've been able to find cheap ones involving pretty much any date in September/October
If you're wondering what China Southern is like as an airline, they actually have a 4 star rating over at Skytrax.
As for Guangzhou, it's the 3rd largest city in China, 180km from Hong Kong, and Vancouver's sister city. Other than that, I have to admit, I don't know a whole lot about it. Somebody educate me.

I just tried booking for a month, either Sept 1 - Oct 1 or Sept 30 - Oct 31, 2012 and I found the price point of $492 but it's from YVR -> LAX via AA than LAX -> Guangzhou on China Southern.
I thought their was a direct flight from YVR to Guangzhou for $492 without transferring at LAX?

That's exactly what I've seen as well for $492, connecting through LAX on the way there, and direct on the way home. Haven't seen direct both ways for $492.

I got in on the KLM to Kenya one posted in July (I leave this weds 7th), I snagged the Beijing special in August, and also went to Mongolia for an expedition for 10 days, AND, last week I booked this flight to Guangzhou!!! I will be gone Sept 6-Oct 1/2012, and I've decided to visit Hong Kong and Macau for a couple of days each, as well as 2 weeks in Vietnam!!
