Vancouver to Santiago, Chile - $489 to $565 CAD roundtrip | but half day layover in Mexico City

Chile

Aeromexico has dropped the price of their flights from Vancouver to Santiago, Chile down to between $489 and $565 CAD roundtrip including taxes. A pretty insane price to a destination that almost never goes on sale.

The flights have 1 stop each way, in Mexico City.

The flight on the way down is fine, just a 3 hour layover. But on the way home, the flight has a 13 hour layover in Mexico City, from about 5 AM to 5 PM.

There are a few dates where the layover in Mexico City is nearly a full day layover (20 hours).

Update: There are now dates in June for $491 roundtrip *without* the really long layover. They have a 3-4 hour layover in Mexico City each way. Pretty close to as fast as Vancouver-Chile can be done. Look for the (new!) dates listed below.

No problem Isabel, that's great to hear it's helping you out with visiting your family. Historically, flights have always been very expensive between Canada and Chile. I'm currently planning a vacation to visit Chile for the first time. Have a great trip!

That is primarily the reason I can't travel home as often. The flights alone are a huge expense from Canada - Chile. I'm so glad you plan to visit! I personally love southern Chile. Pucón has some amazing hot springs. Northern Chile is also a magical place in my heart like San Pedro de Atacama and Laguna Cejar. It's also not far from Bolivia, which makes it possible to take a tour from Atacama to Uyuni Salt Flats and back to Chile (Think of those epic instagram pics). Whatever you plan to do, I'm confident you'll have an amazing time!

Thanks Isabel! The Atacama desert area in Northern Chile is actually my main inspiration for wanting to visit. There's also the area on the other side of the mountains, in Northern Argentina, which looks really interesting, with all of their colorful mountains and red rock landscape. And the Bolivian salt flats that you mentioned, also in this area.

It's kind of a tough area to plan the logistics for, since there are 3 countries involved, with very few car rental spots, and of course you can't drop the car off in a different country. And there's so much to see in these areas. I was thinking of doing something similar to what you suggested - a one way tour from Bolivia to Chile.

If anyone is interested, I have a map started for this area of Chile / Argentina / Bolivia - with all of the airports, best sights, etc.
