Victoria to Colombia, Peru, or Argentina - $264 to $464 CAD roundtrip including taxes
13
December
Aeromexico is showing what appears to be some mistake fares from Victoria to Colombia, Peru, and Argentina for between $264 and $464 CAD roundtrip including taxes.
Many of the flights have ridiculously long travel lengths, with 2 stops each way (Vancouver and Mexico City). But in some cases, it's possible to find layovers in Mexico City that are so long you can check out Mexico City for the day (a 20 hour layover for example).
If you book these, wait at least 48-72 hours before booking anything else related to the trip. Sometimes mistake fares work out, other times they don't.
Clicking through from Google Flights to Expedia or CheapoAir or BudgetAir will have the best chance of the ticket being issued quickly.
Mistake fares can often disappear quickly, I will update this blog post when they are no longer available.
You can also try stretching out the layovers in Mexico City to 1 or 2 nights in both directions (see below for instructions).
Common question: "Hey, can I just get on and off the plane in Vancouver?"
Answer: Unfortunately all airlines automatically cancel the remainder of your ticket once you intentionally skip a leg. On the way home, if you're travelling with just carry-on, you could walk out of the airport in Vancouver, since you wouldn't care about the remaining leg being cancelled.
And yes, it can seem a little strange that these aren't available originating in Vancouver. There is also the possibility that these aren't a mistake, and Aeromexico is just offering insane prices from some select smaller markets. Across Canada these are only available from Victoria, Kelowna, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. Ok, Edmonton isn't technically a small market. It's just a theory.
UPDATE Dec 14. For those that had their tickets cancelled by Expedia today, a few people have told me they called to inquire and Expedia reinstated their tickets.
One person's experience: "I booked tickets for me and my son to fly from Victoria to Lima, Peru. My tickets were cancelled as expected. I called Expedia to see if anything could be done and they reinstated the tickets at the discounted price which I guess was a mistake. I had asked for a confirmation email regarding the reinstatement which the airline sent out (also a mistake I found out) but since Expedia has a policy that prohibits fare changes after a confirmation has been sent out so they're covering the difference in price for me which means we're still go to Peru at the discounted rate. Great news! Good luck to everyone else! I hope you get your tickets."
Some people who booked through Aeromexico directly have been asked by Aeromexico to provide them with a picture of their ID and credit card in order for the booking to be honored.
"I followed the strategy laid out in the post and contacted Expedia to reverse the cancellation and honour the flight as I had received a confirmation email from Expedia. After some back and forth over several days they reached out to me on Christmas and said they've worked with the airline and reissued the tickets. From what I could gather Expedia is eating the cost for the mistake, but maybe there is some agreement in the back between them and Aeromexico. Either way, if you're willing to put the time in and be persistent there's a good chance of having this honoured."
"Pro tip, don't hesitate asking for your case to be escalated to the manager/escalation department. The first agent I spoke to both times was unable to do much but once I had it escalated the second time things moved along a lot more quickly. "

How to find and book this deal
1. Start with the following Google Flights search:
Google Flights: Victoria to Bogota, Colombia
Google Flights: Victoria to Lima, Peru
Google Flights: Victoria to Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Click on the departure date box to open up the calendar view.
- Adjust the trip length at the bottom to browse for cheap date combinations.
- Look for the dates that are $264-$464 roundtrip.
2. Go to Skyscanner
3. Search for a flight from Victoria (YYJ) to Bogota, Colombia (BOG) or one of the other destinations above.
- Try the same dates you found on Google Flights.
You can also try stretching out the layovers in Mexico City to 1 or 2 nights in both directions
1. Start with the following Google Flights Multi City search:
Google Flights: Victoria to Mexico City to Buenos Aires to Mexico City to Victoria
Victoria (YYJ) to Mexico City (MEX)
Mexico City (MEX) to Buenos Aires (EZE)
Buenos Aires (EZE) to Mexico City (MEX)
Mexico City (MEX) to Victoria (YYJ)
2. Try using dates that are similar to the roundtrip dates you found on Google Flights above.
For example, if you found a cheap roundtrip flight from September 1 to September 18, try starting with...
September 1 to September 2 to September 17 to September 19.
You may need to keep the Mexico City flights within 1-2 days of Buenos Aires for the price to remain low.
3. In the example above, the first leg has a reasonable layover in Vancouver. The second and third legs are nonstop. And the fourth leg has a reasonable layover in Vancouver. And the price is still $324 !

I booked through budget air and was issued a ticket right away. I assume even with the ticket issued the airline could easily cancel?
In these situations, if the airline decides to not honor the price, they almost always cancel the ticket within the first 24 hours. But I always tell people to wait at least 48-72 hours before booking anything non-refundable just to be sure.
just wondering, if i miss the first and final leg of the flights - can i catch the rest? i live in vancouver, so don't want to go to victoria, thanks for your amazing work!
Hi Dylan, I replied to your question near the top of the blog post, hope that helps!
I think it's all gone now.
Hi, do you know what the cancellation policy on these tickets would be? As in, would I be able to cancel within the first 24 hours?
this deal is dead now.. used budget air, lets hope they don't cancel it
Whoops. it double posted. I booked one ticket successfully, tried to snag a second and it was already gone
Deal is dead, $864 now
Yes, this deal is gone as of 2:45pm. Booked with budgetair, waiting for final ticket, and hoping it arrives. If anyone else receives a ticket, please post in comments
dead
I was able to book this deal for my wife and I - similar to example dates above but I ended up going with trip.com... tickets were issued within 20 minutes. Fingers crossed! I hope it works out
(585.74 after tax for both of us RT to Lima - September 1-16th) - (overnight flight to mexico city, layover there from 6:10-15:55.) Would that be enough time to leave the airport for any length of time?
The return flight is pretty pleasent, with the only substantial layover in Vancouver (we will be travelling with carryon so will abandon at this stage)
hope it works out - thank you regardless
I got tickets within the hour and for five. Kids were only 259 to Peru
I received an e-ticket from budgetair, but after 6 hours, no official flight ticket from aeromexico. Fingers are still crossed but starting to lose confidence. Did anyone get official tickets with budgetair?
I checked my confirmation # on the aeromexico website and everything still seems to be in order
with budgetair, if you visit the e-ticket page, in the url, it shows the 6 digit code, and it totally worked within aeromexico website.. so excited.. thanks yvr deals!
Booked through go to gate, Lima in February and Bogota in September. We'll see if they get cancelled.
Booked ot and I just got the email that they canceled it :(
That sucks about cancelation. What was the route? The Lima destination has the highest chance of being canceled as it's dramatically under price, whereas the others aren't as extreme. At 910pm and my tickets are still working to Colombia
still not cancelled for me... hope it stays that way :) (lima)
I was able to book yyj-eze through booking.com. and they immediately sent me a reference number for Aeromexico. My flight showed up on the Aeromexico site and I was able to book my seats.
Booked YYJ-LIM for $318 using Gotogate in November. Fingers crossed for no cancellations ????
My reservation on Budget Air has been cancelled :(
Thanks for the heads up! My son and I are heading to Peru in September. Hopefully they don’t cancel our tickets.
my budgetair ticket to bog is still confirmed and active.. 11:35am saturday
So far my reservation from booking.com is still active to Buenos Aires. As of 1145am Saturday. And I can see it on both WestJet and Aeromexico websites but Aeromexico won't let me choose my seats, it just errors out.
My reservation through Expedia from Victoria to Buenos Aires has been cancelled
12:40 pm - Aeromexico tickets still working (Lima)
Aeromexico just cancelled the flights.
I booked tickets from Victoria to Lima, Peru. Expedia sent me an email this morning confirming the cancelation. I called to inquire and they reinstated my tickets.
Here’s hoping it works out.
My tickets via budgetair are still confirmed but from what I’m seeing above, it’s probably going to get cancelled like everyone else. Hoping they’ll return money lol
Good effort everyone
AeroMexico is now cancelling the tickets for those that booked.
My tickets are still valid - 4:39 pm
Brock - can you confirm your source? I still haven’t received a cancellation from aero Mexico.
My ticket was reinstated and then cancelled again a few hours later. Did this happen to anyone else?
I booked tickets for me and my son to fly from Victoria to Lima, Peru.
I hope you get your tickets.
I booked one trip to Argentina on Budget Air and one trip to Peru on Flight Network. Haven't received a cancellation from either yet. Am I to assume that they will honour the flights?
When I enter the reservation number and last name on the Aeromexico site it brings me to a generic page saying: "You can check in 24 hours before take-off on international flights and 48 hours before on domestic flights...etc)" but doesn't show my itinerary. Not sure what to make of it.
Booked direct with Aeromexico. Haven't received any correspondence or cancellation notice, but the ticket isn't showing up on the booking search tool anymore.
On the first day, my flight was displayed on the Aeromexico website, but it was removed on Saturday. I called, and they claimed the payment didn’t go through. However, my credit card shows that the payment was processed. I’m assuming BudgetAir canceled it and is trying to pocket the money.
I booked through BudgetAir as well, and haven't received a cancellation notice. Their Terms and Conditions state that they may cancel a ticket "within Two Working Days" to account for mistakes like this. That window has now passed (Saturdays and Sundays count as biz days). So I do think we have a case... would love to hear from anyone else who has battled this out. Lucho!
Just to add to the nebulous pool of stories: I booked it successfully during the window while they were cheap through flightnetwork.com. never used them before but seemed fine, my credit card was charged, i got a booking number that worked fine on the aeromexico site for a day or so, yesterday i tried again and it wasn't there. I got through to flight network who told me to call the airline, Westjet, after a very long waiting period, said that the booking number was wrong cuz it had to be only 6 letters, the one i had was letters and numbers, but he said he's seeing "flights that look like they could be yours around that time but can't absolutely confirm for privacy reasons until you give me a proper reservation number" or something like that. Leading me to think i'm still on the westjet portion of the journey.
I got through to aero mexico who after telling me to contact the booking service, and me saying they told me to call you, told me they needed to "confirm the payment" by sending a pic of my ID and credit card, which i did (felt comfortable because it was to an @aeromexico.com e-mail addy. They confirmed they received it and would contact me within 24 hours confirming the payment. Whatever that means.
Worked for me - I did manage to book these flights about 7 minutes after the deal was posted (lucky sick day) so maybe that had something to do with it. My reservation still shows on aeromexico and westjet, was able to select my seats as well.
Thanks again Chris, glad to have snagged another YVR deal
When I call Aeromexico, they say they will honor it if I go to their counter and confirm payment and ID. Does anyone think that would work? It would be a day trip off the island to go to YVR to talk to them.
J, yesterday Quincy mentioned that Aeromexico asked him to "confirm the payment" by sending a pic of his ID and credit card to an @aeromexico.com e-mail address. So it sounds like this is a legitimate hoop they are making people go through. Not sure if maybe Quincy could share the e-mail address they gave him?
So you could just e-mail it instead of going in person. Or he could let us know how that went?
My ticket to bog with budgetair seems to be active still. West jet seat selection is avail. But when logging into Aeromexico, the flight shows confirmed but I’m unable to select seats. Just errors out.
My confidence level with budgetair is incredibly low. Horrendous worries on Reddit. Very difficult to talk to real human. During budgetair checkout, I opted for the cancelation upsell, which was an extra 40 bucks. When logged into budget air, my cancellation options are now unavailable. Paid with PayPal, funds were taken and haven’t been returned.
I guess the first flights from this deal are in January so we’ll hear what’s up in a month. Good luck everyone
@simon sat and sun aren’t official business days
@K they are specifically included as such in BudgetAir's Terms and Conditions (sometimes reading the fine print pays off). But either way it's now Tuesday and they haven't cancelled it.
@simon just because Budget Air hasn't sent you anything, doesnt mean they arent cancelled? Can you see you reservation on the aeromexico website?
@all has anyone gotten to the step where Aeromexico says the problem is with the payment with budget air, and that the ticket is currently in a "NOGO" status? At that point they are saying we need to get budget air to fix this. The charge has already processed on my card of course. I assume this is just budget air not paying the airline quickly and then once it is paid it will get cancelled anyways.
@stan R - my tickets show active and confirmed. When did you book? Maybe it was after they caught on, or between things. The only change I had within my portal for BudgetAir was the cancel booking became unavailable (even though I paid for cancellation protection). You could try the live chat, good luck
@simon did you try to change or reserve seats within Budgetair? It's showing the capability to upgrade seats within that website for me, but no where else. The cancel booking option with budgetair was the only thing that changed, so maybe the tickets will work after all
For anyone that seems to have a ticket working, I was looking into travel options to Victoria and didn’t realize it’s quite a trek to use BC Ferries. It's a 4-5 hour ordeal. Flying is actually an awesome option. If you check all your fav travel sites, you'll see some inexpensive options, or at least I did.
Just booked a $37 flight on Skyscanner with Air North via trip.com that gets in at 1 PM. There's a bunch of flights from YVR to YYJ, but I opted for the cheapest one...
12:50 - Depart YVR Vancouver International Airport M
13:20 - Arrive YYJ Victoria International Airport
19:00 - Depart to YVR, Mex, and Bog
Waiting around for 6 hours sucks, but it feels like far less hassle than taking BC Ferries, though it’s a bit funny to fly from YVR to Victoria and back to YVR. But hey, for $37, why not?
If the flight doesn’t get canceled, I’ll start booking accommodation tomorrow.
I think our tickets are safe for those who have them? The seat selection feature on the aeromexico website is notoriously buggy, I would not let that cause you any sort of concern. I don't know why, at this point, people who still have valid reservations that show up on aeromexico should be concerned at all. I was able to select seats but not before switching browsers and disabling my ad blocker and VPN
I booked through Expedia, but they deny honoring the flights or rebooking with the difference covered, as other like Nicole have mentioned. Their customer service team is insisting on a confirmation number from someone who's had this experience. I explained that it's unlikely anyone would share their confirmation number, but they told me they can't offer any assistance without it. I'm really frustrated!
Has anyone based in Vancouver tried to go to the counter and see if they will honor it? I doubt people a the counter will have any power to fix, feel more like a deterrer...
I booked a flight to Lima in February through Go to Gate. The original booking codes they sent me in my confirmation email would not show up in WestJet or Aeromexico, despite the flight coming off my credit card. I sent an email to G2G's Customer service and they issued a new document with a new booking code. My flights now show up through WestJet and Aeromexico.
It’s interesting how the answers vary depending on who you talk to. I just got an email back from Aero Mexico, and they’re saying there are issues with my tickets. They won’t honor the tickets or the pricing, and on top of that, they won’t issue a refund until 15 days after the last leg of my flight—which isn’t until September. So now, they’re holding onto my money for 9-10 months?
Yeah, I think it's a situation where it may depend on who you talk to or e-mail with at Aeromexico. Even for normal situations, a lot of times it just depends on the quality level of the person you happen to get. It could be worth contacting them again. Or if all else fails, and a person has given up, initiate a chargeback with your credit card company.
We booked through BudgetAir to Buenos Aires, got our e-tickets, and it seems valid thru the Aeromexico website. Two of us to Argentina with cancellation insurance for under $1000 is amazing! I'm unable to book seats but it's not until March so I'll just keep checking back to see if seat selection starts working! Thank you!!!
Thanks Lisa, as others have noted, the lack of the ability to select seats happens all the time, so anyone thinking it is a cause for concern, don't be alarmed.
I have booked through Budget Air on Friday the 13th, got my tickets the same day. I did not bother checking anything until today. It shows my tickets are valid with Budget Air but my status with AeroMexico is “No-go” they gave me the same directions to go the airport and show id, I mentioned there is no AeroMexico station at the Victoria Airport and they said I could go to any airline that is a part of sky alliance… I somehow dont believe that. I really would like to secure these tickets. If anyone is able to confirm if they got them with Budget Air please let us all know. They never offered for me to send anything by email and i’m a little wary of sending CC info that way…
@jo are you using the 6 digit code? When I view my Budget Air, there's actually a BCA for Budget, and then 2 other confirmation codes. I guess one for Westjet and one for Aeromexico. Both codes work for me on either website.
For anyone else that has budget air but can't pick your seats, did you try scrolling down the page to upgrade your seats? If you "Enrich your trip" and "Reserve your seats" you should see options to reserve a ticket. The other seat selection buttons were useless. Maybe everyone else figured that out, but I missed it.
booking accommodation now and stoked
good luck to everyone else
Hi Jo, I don’t think YYJ has any airlines that are part of the SkyTeam alliance.
@K i’m using the 13 digit ticket number for Aero Mexico. They were able to find my information. Westjet could not seem to find anything with the 6 digit code. I sent an email off to support at Budget air lets see what happens.
I just realized one of my connection flights mex city to lima I only have a 1.5 hour layover, but upon checking it looks like all of their connecting flights have the exact same time through the week. Should I be worried about this?
Has anyone else that booked through expedia been able to get the ticket honoured? They keep telling me to contact air mexico, and air mexico keeps telling me to talk to expedia.
@jo what's the issue with 1.5 hours, you have plenty of time to catch the connection
@K i thought the suggested connecting time should be 3 hours for international? Will I not have to go through screening again?
I got a reply from Budget air, they are looking into it and will get back to me within 24 hours apparently.
@jo no, if your itinerary was purchased as one ticket (as in: you have only one itinerary and one confirmation number), then you're fine. 30 minutes is usually the shortest connection time.
Did anyone who booked with Budget Air get a confirmed ticket?
Wow I have emails from Budget Air and Aeromexico basically saying it’s the other parties issue and no one will help me get my tickets. What the heck do I do?!
Try BudgetAir live chat, they were responsive within a few minutes for me
Otherwise, if both airlines deny and credit card has been charged, you'll probably have to do a chargeback. You'll get your $ back, but won't get the cheap flight
@k were you able to secure your flight? I finally figured out how to use the live chat with Budget Air (it does not work on a mobile) they say they will escalate to another team and should reach out within 6 hours. Fingers crossed
@jo What do you mean by “was I able to secure flight?”
It’s still active, the codes say confirmed, but the main concern has been the possibility of it getting canceled. So far, that hasn’t happened (knock on wood). While anything is possible, the fact that it hasn’t been canceled like others makes me hopeful.
Did anyone book with gotogate? I contected them two days ago and they said they would try to reinstate my tickets but havent heard anything from them (even the cancellation notice). Please let me know.
@Ian I booked with gotogate (colombia in May). After i made my purchase i have not heard a peep from them. They charged my CC but it now looks like the airline codes aren't showing up (aeromexio give some weird webpage about sigining in 24 hours before the flight) and westjet isn't working either. I am not sure what to do....
UPDATE
After many hrs with AeroMexico (we purchased directly with them) we were initially told the ticket showed as a NO-GO and we had to validate the credit card at the counter. They finally admitted it was a fare mistake and sold over 1k tickets at this fare and at this point validating the CC at the counter wasn't going to get us the tickets either.
So we got our refund processed and sadly we won't be going to Colombia.
We never received a cancellation email and I got the feeling that if we had showed up the day of the travel they would have honored it but sine "we were lucky to caught it on time" they could cancel it. Our flight was booked for end of March.
Booked with Flight Network. I received no cancellation but couldn't see my flights with the reservation number after the first day. On my first call, to Aero Mexico I believe, I was told the flights were fine. On the 2nd call to Aeromexico I was told Flight Network had cancelled the flight. On the 3rd call, to Flight Network, I was told AeroMexico had cancelled them. On my 4th call, to Aero Mexico, they said they had cancelled the flight. I argued that it should be honored and was simply told my complaint would be escalated to their customer service department, who will email me.
Aeromexico changed my flight into mexico city, moving my massive layover to one in Vancouver. Might be nice but they have left me a very short layover in mexico city. I am set to arrive at 14:30 and my flight to lima leaves at 15:55 - does this one hour and 25 minutes allow us enough time to transfer with carry on only?

If they forced me to make this flight change does that mean they plan on honouring my tickets at least?
this worked for me!
I booked a ticket to Buenos Aires on Booking.com. Everything was fine until today, when I received an email from Aeromexico showing they had rebooked my flight with two very long layovers in Vancouver and Mexico City. The total outbound trip is now over 50 hours. Booking.com only offers a refund. This seems like the airline's strategy to push for cancellation.
oh wow, that's wild they had over 1k bookings, someone got fired for sure
In fact, they might be reading these comments too. hey guys! =p
@riley - they just moved my flight too. Just the return leg, updating from 330pm departure to 8am departure, which sucks bc I can no longer fly into Bog in the morning. Additionally, they changed the YVR to YJI portion for a 9 hour overnight layover. Thank god i'm just skipping that last leg with just carry on. All to say, my new tickets have been issued. With this new change, I can now book/update tickets within the Aeromexico portal, which I was unabel to do before. Meaning, these tickets are good to go!!
For your question on connections, Mexico city should be good for an hour. There will be others on your same flight with the same destination from YVR. Also, it's the same airline, so it will be the same terminal. Another thread here www.sanspotter com/is-1-hour-layover-enough-time-in-mexico-city/ (remove the space)
Sucks about the refunds for everyone else
@Sophie yes, they are 100% totally trying to make flight difficulties for sure. My flight changed from 16 hours to 29 hours, but the longest part of the new change is a layover in Vancouver, which worked out fine for me (bc i'm not going to victoria). For your ticket, you can request a new flight, so try loading the day before or after. Or you can try to have a stopover between those destinations. No ideal, but leave 2 days earler, spend 2 days in mexico city, then fly out with new flight. Or you can ask them to find you another flight on Skyteam Alliance.

Usually on time for the first leg, and late on second
@K - thank you for the reassurance - do you think it would be worth it to bid on the am plus upgrade - seems like it could help us deplane a bit faster.
@riley "Since your flights are on one booking code with the same airline, there will likely be others connecting to the same flight. Airlines handle these connections daily, so they generally account for tight windows like this. Unless you’re checking luggage (which may require rechecking—double-check with the airline), you should be fine with just carry-on.
If you’re worried, you could check forums like TripAdvisor to see if anyone’s done this exact route recently. Realistically, the main reasons you’d miss the connection would be if the first flight was significantly delayed, canceled, or you were moving very slowly between gates.
Personally, I wouldn’t book closer seats to the front just for this situation since it’s part of the same route and airline. But if upgrading gives you peace of mind, it could be worth considering. I also noticed seat upgrades on BudgetAir website portal are often cheaper than going through Aeromexico directly, so that might be worth a look too
Those who got active confirmations, what platforms did you use? Did you have to do anything?
Well just got the email from Budget Air that the tickets are canceled will be refunded in up to 2 months. Lucky me… they just told me lastnight on their chat that they would be issuing me new tickets. Is anyone having success getting them to reinstate the tickets?
I emailed gotogate to inquire about the status of my tickets. still havent heard back. FYI - i never received a cancellation email.
Anyone have a good understanding of the legal implication of Aero Mexico cancelling these tickets? I'm sure the situation has been all manipulated against us in the fine print, but in any case the Civil Resolution Tribunal here in BC has been very willing to award damages against airlines, this was even in the news recently. I'll bet if it was us that clicked the wrong thing and agreed to an unfavourable price on airline tickets, we couldn't simply call it a 'mistake fare' and yank back our money...
My flight to Buenos Aires never got cancelled. Anyone else still have a working reservation?
Budget air is such an insane company to deal with. One of their agents in the chat mentioned they will stop my cancelation and find me alternative flights just wait for an email with flight options. Today rolls around and I get another email saying the tickets are canceled and no other options available. 10 weeks for a refund.
Any more updates?
I followed the strategy laid out in the post and contacted Expedia to reverse the cancellation and honour the flight as I had received a confirmation email from Expedia. After some back and forth over several days they reached out to me on Christmas and said they've worked with the airline and reissued the tickets. From what I could gather Expedia is eating the cost for the mistake, but maybe there is some agreement in the back between them and Aeromexico. Either way, if you're willing to put the time in and be persistent there's a good chance of having this honoured.
Pro tip, don't hesitate asking for your case to be escalated to the manager/escalation department. The first agent I spoke to both times was unable to do much but once I had it escalated the second time things moved along a lot more quickly.
They moved/bumped my flights by 12 hours resulting in longer transit times (like others in the thread), but my tickets are still active everywhere. No changes, tickets are GOOD TO GO
merry christmas
Any updates for those who didnt get reinstated?
day 12 of waiting for a response from gotogate
Also waiting for a response from gotogate. The latest response was that they have requested aeromexico for an alternative flight.
Anyone have any progress getting Flight Network to honor the deal?
They cancelled my flight to Peru yesterday. Cancelled the Victoria to Vancouver leg and the only other option was “sold out at this price” virtually forcing me to cancel the entire trip. For my refund immediately, at least. Better luck next time!
Aeromexico through Expedia canceled my first flight from Victoria to Vancouver as well. I had to fight for 5 hours to get them to book me on another flight which ended up being the same flight, with the same carrier, leaving at the same time with a different flight number. If you booked through Expedia use Live Chat and escalate to a supervisor. Expedia has a policy that once your flight has been confirmed they have to rebook you on a different flight at no cost to you.
So update from me: after so many e-mails and phone calls, flightnetwork.com finally spoke to aeromexico, they told flightnetwork they wouldn't rebook the ticket so it's officially cancelled for good. They (flightnetwork) offered me to pay the difference (would have been more than double) or a refund. I haven't gotten the refund but they said they'd update me when it is processed.
