Victoria to Colombia, Peru, or Argentina - $264 to $464 CAD roundtrip including taxes
13
December
Aeromexico is showing what appears to be some mistake fares from Victoria to Colombia, Peru, and Argentina for between $264 and $464 CAD roundtrip including taxes.
Many of the flights have ridiculously long travel lengths, with 2 stops each way (Vancouver and Mexico City). But in some cases, it's possible to find layovers in Mexico City that are so long you can check out Mexico City for the day (a 20 hour layover for example).
If you book these, wait at least 48-72 hours before booking anything else related to the trip. Sometimes mistake fares work out, other times they don't.
Clicking through from Google Flights to Expedia or CheapoAir or BudgetAir will have the best chance of the ticket being issued quickly.
Mistake fares can often disappear quickly, I will update this blog post when they are no longer available.
You can also try stretching out the layovers in Mexico City to 1 or 2 nights in both directions (see below for instructions).
Common question: "Hey, can I just get on and off the plane in Vancouver?"
Answer: Unfortunately all airlines automatically cancel the remainder of your ticket once you intentionally skip a leg. On the way home, if you're travelling with just carry-on, you could walk out of the airport in Vancouver, since you wouldn't care about the remaining leg being cancelled.
And yes, it can seem a little strange that these aren't available originating in Vancouver. There is also the possibility that these aren't a mistake, and Aeromexico is just offering insane prices from some select smaller markets. Across Canada these are only available from Victoria, Kelowna, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. Ok, Edmonton isn't technically a small market. It's just a theory.
UPDATE Dec 14. For those that had their tickets cancelled by Expedia today, a few people have told me they called to inquire and Expedia reinstated their tickets.
One person's experience: "I booked tickets for me and my son to fly from Victoria to Lima, Peru. My tickets were cancelled as expected. I called Expedia to see if anything could be done and they reinstated the tickets at the discounted price which I guess was a mistake. I had asked for a confirmation email regarding the reinstatement which the airline sent out (also a mistake I found out) but since Expedia has a policy that prohibits fare changes after a confirmation has been sent out so they're covering the difference in price for me which means we're still go to Peru at the discounted rate. Great news! Good luck to everyone else! I hope you get your tickets."
Some people who booked through Aeromexico directly have been asked by Aeromexico to provide them with a picture of their ID and credit card in order for the booking to be honored.

How to find and book this deal
1. Start with the following Google Flights search:
Google Flights: Victoria to Bogota, Colombia
Google Flights: Victoria to Lima, Peru
Google Flights: Victoria to Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Click on the departure date box to open up the calendar view.
- Adjust the trip length at the bottom to browse for cheap date combinations.
- Look for the dates that are $264-$464 roundtrip.
2. Go to Skyscanner
3. Search for a flight from Victoria (YYJ) to Bogota, Colombia (BOG) or one of the other destinations above.
- Try the same dates you found on Google Flights.
You can also try stretching out the layovers in Mexico City to 1 or 2 nights in both directions
1. Start with the following Google Flights Multi City search:
Google Flights: Victoria to Mexico City to Buenos Aires to Mexico City to Victoria
Victoria (YYJ) to Mexico City (MEX)
Mexico City (MEX) to Buenos Aires (EZE)
Buenos Aires (EZE) to Mexico City (MEX)
Mexico City (MEX) to Victoria (YYJ)
2. Try using dates that are similar to the roundtrip dates you found on Google Flights above.
For example, if you found a cheap roundtrip flight from September 1 to September 18, try starting with...
September 1 to September 2 to September 17 to September 19.
You may need to keep the Mexico City flights within 1-2 days of Buenos Aires for the price to remain low.
3. In the example above, the first leg has a reasonable layover in Vancouver. The second and third legs are nonstop. And the fourth leg has a reasonable layover in Vancouver. And the price is still $324 !

I booked through budget air and was issued a ticket right away. I assume even with the ticket issued the airline could easily cancel?
In these situations, if the airline decides to not honor the price, they almost always cancel the ticket within the first 24 hours. But I always tell people to wait at least 48-72 hours before booking anything non-refundable just to be sure.
just wondering, if i miss the first and final leg of the flights - can i catch the rest? i live in vancouver, so don't want to go to victoria, thanks for your amazing work!
Hi Dylan, I replied to your question near the top of the blog post, hope that helps!
I think it's all gone now.
Hi, do you know what the cancellation policy on these tickets would be? As in, would I be able to cancel within the first 24 hours?
this deal is dead now.. used budget air, lets hope they don't cancel it
Whoops. it double posted. I booked one ticket successfully, tried to snag a second and it was already gone
It seems dead, at least on Aeromexico site and Expedia. I wouldn't book with less known agents, because they nickle and dime you for changes, even involuntary ones.
Deal is dead, $864 now
Yes, this deal is gone as of 2:45pm. Booked with budgetair, waiting for final ticket, and hoping it arrives. If anyone else receives a ticket, please post in comments
dead
I was able to book this deal for my wife and I - similar to example dates above but I ended up going with trip.com... tickets were issued within 20 minutes. Fingers crossed! I hope it works out
(585.74 after tax for both of us RT to Lima - September 1-16th) - (overnight flight to mexico city, layover there from 6:10-15:55.) Would that be enough time to leave the airport for any length of time?
The return flight is pretty pleasent, with the only substantial layover in Vancouver (we will be travelling with carryon so will abandon at this stage)
hope it works out - thank you regardless
I got tickets within the hour and for five. Kids were only 259 to Peru
I received an e-ticket from budgetair, but after 6 hours, no official flight ticket from aeromexico. Fingers are still crossed but starting to lose confidence. Did anyone get official tickets with budgetair?
I checked my confirmation # on the aeromexico website and everything still seems to be in order
with budgetair, if you visit the e-ticket page, in the url, it shows the 6 digit code, and it totally worked within aeromexico website.. so excited.. thanks yvr deals!
Booked through go to gate, Lima in February and Bogota in September. We'll see if they get cancelled.
Booked ot and I just got the email that they canceled it :(
That sucks about cancelation. What was the route? The Lima destination has the highest chance of being canceled as it's dramatically under price, whereas the others aren't as extreme. At 910pm and my tickets are still working to Colombia
still not cancelled for me... hope it stays that way :) (lima)
I was able to book yyj-eze through booking.com. and they immediately sent me a reference number for Aeromexico. My flight showed up on the Aeromexico site and I was able to book my seats.
Booked YYJ-LIM for $318 using Gotogate in November. Fingers crossed for no cancellations ????
My reservation on Budget Air has been cancelled :(
Thanks for the heads up! My son and I are heading to Peru in September. Hopefully they don’t cancel our tickets.
my budgetair ticket to bog is still confirmed and active.. 11:35am saturday
So far my reservation from booking.com is still active to Buenos Aires. As of 1145am Saturday. And I can see it on both WestJet and Aeromexico websites but Aeromexico won't let me choose my seats, it just errors out.
My reservation through Expedia from Victoria to Buenos Aires has been cancelled
12:40 pm - Aeromexico tickets still working (Lima)
Aeromexico just cancelled the flights.
Aeromexico just cancelled the flights. I got a notification from Expedia
I booked tickets from Victoria to Lima, Peru. Expedia sent me an email this morning confirming the cancelation. I called to inquire and they reinstated my tickets.
Here’s hoping it works out.
My tickets via budgetair are still confirmed but from what I’m seeing above, it’s probably going to get cancelled like everyone else. Hoping they’ll return money lol
Good effort everyone
AeroMexico is now cancelling the tickets for those that booked.
My tickets are still valid - 4:39 pm
My tickets to bog are still active/confirmed as of 6pm on saturday. However, if they've canceled the same flights with other OTAs, it's surely only a matter of time until they go through the rest of them. Assuming the better OTAs have already cancelled but will take a bit longer for the crappy OTAs. After reading budgetair reviews on reddit and elsewhere, i'm more concerned about getting the actual refund. paid with paypal, wish i used expedia or booking
better luck next time!
Brock - can you confirm your source? I still haven’t received a cancellation from aero Mexico.
My ticket was reinstated and then cancelled again a few hours later. Did this happen to anyone else?
I booked tickets for me and my son to fly from Victoria to Lima, Peru.

I booked one trip to Argentina on Budget Air and one trip to Peru on Flight Network. Haven't received a cancellation from either yet. Am I to assume that they will honour the flights?
When I enter the reservation number and last name on the Aeromexico site it brings me to a generic page saying: "You can check in 24 hours before take-off on international flights and 48 hours before on domestic flights...etc)" but doesn't show my itinerary. Not sure what to make of it.
Booked direct with Aeromexico. Haven't received any correspondence or cancellation notice, but the ticket isn't showing up on the booking search tool anymore.
On the first day, my flight was displayed on the Aeromexico website, but it was removed on Saturday. I called, and they claimed the payment didn’t go through. However, my credit card shows that the payment was processed. I’m assuming BudgetAir canceled it and is trying to pocket the money.
I booked through BudgetAir as well, and haven't received a cancellation notice. Their Terms and Conditions state that they may cancel a ticket "within Two Working Days" to account for mistakes like this. That window has now passed (Saturdays and Sundays count as biz days). So I do think we have a case... would love to hear from anyone else who has battled this out. Lucho!
Just to add to the nebulous pool of stories: I booked it successfully during the window while they were cheap through flightnetwork.com. never used them before but seemed fine, my credit card was charged, i got a booking number that worked fine on the aeromexico site for a day or so, yesterday i tried again and it wasn't there. I got through to flight network who told me to call the airline, Westjet, after a very long waiting period, said that the booking number was wrong cuz it had to be only 6 letters, the one i had was letters and numbers, but he said he's seeing "flights that look like they could be yours around that time but can't absolutely confirm for privacy reasons until you give me a proper reservation number" or something like that. Leading me to think i'm still on the westjet portion of the journey.
I got through to aero mexico who after telling me to contact the booking service, and me saying they told me to call you, told me they needed to "confirm the payment" by sending a pic of my ID and credit card, which i did (felt comfortable because it was to an @aeromexico.com e-mail addy. They confirmed they received it and would contact me within 24 hours confirming the payment. Whatever that means.
Worked for me - I did manage to book these flights about 7 minutes after the deal was posted (lucky sick day) so maybe that had something to do with it. My reservation still shows on aeromexico and westjet, was able to select my seats as well.
Thanks again Chris, glad to have snagged another YVR deal
When I call Aeromexico, they say they will honor it if I go to their counter and confirm payment and ID. Does anyone think that would work? It would be a day trip off the island to go to YVR to talk to them.
J, yesterday Quincy mentioned that Aeromexico asked him to "confirm the payment" by sending a pic of his ID and credit card to an @aeromexico.com e-mail address. So it sounds like this is a legitimate hoop they are making people go through. Not sure if maybe Quincy could share the e-mail address they gave him?
So you could just e-mail it instead of going in person. Or he could let us know how that went?
My ticket to bog with budgetair seems to be active still. West jet seat selection is avail. But when logging into Aeromexico, the flight shows confirmed but I’m unable to select seats. Just errors out.
My confidence level with budgetair is incredibly low. Horrendous worries on Reddit. Very difficult to talk to real human. During budgetair checkout, I opted for the cancelation upsell, which was an extra 40 bucks. When logged into budget air, my cancellation options are now unavailable. Paid with PayPal, funds were taken and haven’t been returned.
I guess the first flights from this deal are in January so we’ll hear what’s up in a month. Good luck everyone
@simon sat and sun aren’t official business days
@K they are specifically included as such in BudgetAir's Terms and Conditions (sometimes reading the fine print pays off). But either way it's now Tuesday and they haven't cancelled it.
@simon just because Budget Air hasn't sent you anything, doesnt mean they arent cancelled? Can you see you reservation on the aeromexico website?
@all has anyone gotten to the step where Aeromexico says the problem is with the payment with budget air, and that the ticket is currently in a "NOGO" status? At that point they are saying we need to get budget air to fix this. The charge has already processed on my card of course. I assume this is just budget air not paying the airline quickly and then once it is paid it will get cancelled anyways.
@stan R - my tickets show active and confirmed. When did you book? Maybe it was after they caught on, or between things. The only change I had within my portal for BudgetAir was the cancel booking became unavailable (even though I paid for cancellation protection). You could try the live chat, good luck
@simon did you try to change or reserve seats within Budgetair? It's showing the capability to upgrade seats within that website for me, but no where else. The cancel booking option with budgetair was the only thing that changed, so maybe the tickets will work after all
For anyone that seems to have a ticket working, I was looking into travel options to Victoria and didn’t realize it’s quite a trek to use BC Ferries. It's a 4-5 hour ordeal. Flying is actually an awesome option. If you check all your fav travel sites, you'll see some inexpensive options, or at least I did.
Just booked a $37 flight on Skyscanner with Air North via trip.com that gets in at 1 PM. There's a bunch of flights from YVR to YYJ, but I opted for the cheapest one...
12:50 - Depart YVR Vancouver International Airport M
13:20 - Arrive YYJ Victoria International Airport
19:00 - Depart to YVR, Mex, and Bog
Waiting around for 6 hours sucks, but it feels like far less hassle than taking BC Ferries, though it’s a bit funny to fly from YVR to Victoria and back to YVR. But hey, for $37, why not?
If the flight doesn’t get canceled, I’ll start booking accommodation tomorrow.
