Good deals to Africa on KLM - Nairobi down to $923 roundtrip after tax

KLM is having a 'flash sale' to Africa for the next 5 days, and the prices are definitely notable.

Accra $1190
Entebbe $1190
Nairobi $1190
Mombasa $1300
Johannesburg $1490
Lagos $1490

Now, these are the prices on KLM.com but there appears to be cheaper flights available through other sites.

This search in December on Kayak.com for example, reveals one through Vayama.com for $923 CDN roundtrip after tax from Vancouver to Nairobi, Kenya.

You can find similarly priced flights in September/October/November as well. Try 3 day flexible date searches on Kayak and see what comes up.

If someone were to ask me what they could expect to pay for a great deal to get from Vancouver to Nairobi, I would tell them that the bottom price stays pretty consistent at around $1600 roundtrip after tax. And it's not exactly a destination that goes on sale all too often. So a true 43% discount off the usual bottom price is definitely notable.

If you're thinking Africa this year, you should definitely be having a look today.

Oh, and this is the place I'm hoping to stay at one day, it's called Giraffe Manor, just outside of Nairobi...

Chris, I'd be careful advocating vayama or airfare.com rates to your readers. These guys are travel consolidators who confirm your seats mere days before your trip. If seats aren't released to them, they e-mail you with little notice.

I know firsthand that airfare.com is terrible, but it is my understanding that Vayma's booking system is a lot more sophisticated and actually books and confirms your seats instantly (unlike airfare.com), similar to Orbitz/Expedia.

I've also heard only good things about Vayama, and they have an A rating with the BBB (unlike airfare.com who has an F rating).

Just wondering if you had any links or personal experience with Vayama regarding confirming your seats a few days before? Everything I've read has suggested that your seats are confirmed instantly and people receive their booking codes right away.

Thanks for acknowledging the risk with airfare.com. I should retract my comments about Vayama because I do not have first-hand experience using the site. I have only heard hearsay from one individual.

No problem HJ, I've definitely acknowledged the risk about airfare.com, in fact I wrote an article warning people not to use them:

    http://www.yvrdeals.com/why-you-should-never-use-airfarecom-to-book-a-flight-and-my-apologies-for-a-deal-that-didnt-pan-out

I learned first hand that their booking systems aren't sophisticated enough to automatically confirm your flight with the airline. They basically rely on an offshore support team to confirm your flight after you've booked. If they can't, you get a call from someone a few days later that is impossible to understand telling you to try booking again.
